Two forms of energy can have the same quantity but very different abilities to do useful work. This tool compares their energy quantity and Exergy Factor to show how much accessible exergy each record carries.

Why it matters

Equal energy quantities are not always equal in value.

Electricity, high-temperature steam, warm water, hydrogen, and low-grade waste heat can all be written with the same base quantity, but they do not have the same ability to convert that energy into useful work.

Exergy Factor adds an additional quality dimension that allows us to determine exactly how much useful work each form of energy can potentially provide.

How to read it

The comparison is not just bigger versus smaller.

The result shows accessible exergy. A smaller quantity with a high Exergy Factor can be more useful than a larger quantity with a low Exergy Factor.

Accessible Exergy = Energy Quantity x Exergy Factor

This provides an additional layer so that different forms of energy can be analyzed on equivalent thermodynamic terms.
